Dr. Lorenzo Ku is a distinguished Filipino-Chinese entrepreneur, diplomat, educator, and philanthropist whose lifelong contributions have greatly influenced economic development, international cooperation, education, and community service in the Philippines. Born on June 29, 1936, in Manila to Chinese-Filipino parents, Dr. Ku became widely recognized for his remarkable leadership in strengthening relations between the Philippines and the People’s Republic of China.
For decades, Dr. Ku has been acknowledged as a bridge builder who promoted goodwill, friendship, and constructive engagement between the two nations. His initiatives strengthened people-to-people relations and encouraged mutual understanding, cultural respect, and shared prosperity. Through his diplomatic and civic efforts, he became one of the most influential personalities in Philippines–China relations.
In 1972, Dr. Ku initiated programs aimed at deepening friendship and economic cooperation between the Philippines and China. A year later, in 1973, he helped establish the Philippine-China Understanding Association and the Filipino-Chinese Sports Promotion Association. Serving as Chairman, he actively supported programs and activities that promoted cooperation in economic, cultural, sports, and community development initiatives.
Dr. Ku also played an important role in strengthening unity within the Filipino-Chinese community by bringing together various civic organizations for common developmental and humanitarian purposes. His efforts fostered stronger cooperation, participation, and meaningful public service within the broader community.
In recognition of his contributions to business, diplomacy, and public service, Dr. Ku was also honored as a Filipino-Chinese Elite, named one of the 80 Outstanding Chinese Businessmen, and awarded an Honorary Doctorate from University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, among many other distinctions.

Known for her dynamic leadership and dedication to public service, Dr. Gwendolyn K. Wong is the only daughter among the four children of Dr. Lorenzo Ku and Madam Anita Ku.
